Mixed like Aldie's race

Mixed reactions to Thank You for Smoking.

I think I liked it, but it wasn't what I was expecting. For some reason I thought it was more Michael Moore-ish, more like a documentary. Nope. And really? Every time I see Katie Holmes, I think of Tom Cruise and him eating her placenta. Sorry, Katie. Your career is probably over now. (Although... She seems to be the nowi'minlovesoicanstopworkingforeverandstayhomewithmykidsandcannibalhusband type, does she not?)

I haven't read up on the inspiration for the movie or anything, but regardless it provided a pretty interesting perspective. And a valid one, at that. I laughed at a few parts, and left without regretting the seven bucks I paid to get in. That's a good thing, right?

I swear to shake it up if you swear to listen

Alright, Aldie - if this is true, I'm caving in and getting a Sidekick during "second quarter" of 2006. That means this summer, bitches. And with a little help from my lawyer stepfather, hopefully we'll be able to finaggle [sp?] something with the T-Mobile folks and score a deal similar to my current [really, really fantastic and cheap] Sprint plan.

Good comic site... Good musician...

Check out my friend Will's little comic project with his friend Whit at Comic Theory. (Hell, while you're at it, listen to his music and friend him on Myspace too.) This is my favorite comic so far:

The original plan was to write our first official post when we were drunk at my house last weekend, but that didn't happen. So, Aldie took it upon himself to write a pretty useless blurb about all the shows he has gone to recently - without offering anything substantial criticism or praise of any of them.

And it had a lot of typos.

Because I don't want this blog to turn into crap like my personal blog has, I took his post down. Sorry, Aldie - no one's interested in hearing the play by play of your life unless you have something interesting to say.

(Which, for the record, he already admitted he doesn't. Not at the time of writing that post, at least.)

(You may already notice we have a pretty honest friendship. I'm usually the less friendly one. But it's real - that's important.)

I went to a pre-screening of American Dreamz last night with my friend (Katie) from high school who's interning at KARE 11. Some city promotions group gives them movie tickets so they can do reviews on air, and Katie gets the leftovers when no one else wants them.

I had mixed reactions to the film. I knew it was supposed to poke fun at American Idol, but I had no idea how many political jabs it would take at our doofus president. Which was fun... Don't get me wrong. The only annoyance I had with that part was that Dennis Quaid actually made Bushie-poo seem a little endearing, rather than completely incompetent. And most of the jokes were too blatant to be legitimately funny, although I let out plenty of chuckles at different times. Mandy Moore did a good job - the movie was supposed to be obnoxious, so it's not like she'll get an Oscar or anything. All I'm saying is obnoxious and loud is good for her. (As opposed to the whole leukemia victim thing in A Walk to Remember - a movie I enjoy ONLY because I'm a girl and I HAVE to.)

Katie and I had a good little pre-movie chat with her coworker (a producer at KARE) and her sister. They provided a humorous little inside look at what it's like to be a young business woman in Minneapolis... A conversation I need to have with people more often.

(My occasional discontent - or maybe my occasional contentment - with my job is pretty fluid. I don't really know what I should be expecting from my first "grown-up job." But, that's a whole 'nother story.)

Off to work.

(I'll make Aldie fix his post soon.)

aldie's lame play-by-play

well, it really sucks that music is such a big part of my life. i sometimes wish is wasn't because there is so much crap music out there that even when you want to hold on to some sort of dignity and or hold any kind of indie cred... you can't, and we all know it's all about the indie cred and/or scene points. i'll get into scene points some other time.

sooo... yeahhh... here is what i have been up to...

4/8 i went down to saint peter for the academy is... and the plain white t's show. it was good. after the show the t's ended up driving back to chicago minus their drummer demar. so demar, the academy guys, lindsey and her roommates, whitie, smokey, lindsi and i went to the bars. it was fun, i got a chance to actually talk to the guys in the academy and they are all real down to earth. hello, my name is william beckett.

4/9 was the take action tour at the quest. matchbook romance headlined... which is too bad. they're terrible. i don't really remember who else was on that tour other than amber pacific and the early november because they shared a bus. i ended up driving some of the amber pacific guys to my house to take showers. [editor's note... aldie knows these guys, it wasn't random. love, lindsi.] i'm nice it turns out. lindsi is a trooper for hanging out as late as she did. [heck yes i am.]

4/14 we ended up going to lindsi's for some grilling and drinking. mickey's is gonna leave us hurting by the end of this summer. so many good times were had. i'm stoked for the rest of the summer.

4/15 was the saves the day show with circa survive. went to that, stayed for the first band, down to earth approach... who you should all check out and support... such great guys. said hi and caught up with those guys, then left. i went to rob's [from dropping daylight] house and had some burgers... it was his birthday.
